The Bali Duck originally comes from the island of Bali to the east of Java. Bali Ducks are sometimes called the Balinese Crested Duck and even the Crested Runner Duck due to the close similarities to White Indian Runner Ducks. The Bali Duck has an upright carriage and remains more upright than Indian Runners that do lower their angle more when relaxed. Just like Indian Runner Ducks, they lay a good number of eggs, typically between 140 and 200 per year.

The Gene that creates the crest is believed to be a lethal gene. This means that when identical alleles of the gene are present on both chromosomes, the ducklings will either die in the shell, or be born with deformities. To overcome this, it is possible to outcross to plain headed Bali ducks. 50% of the offspring will have crests, and 50% won’t.
