HenSafe is an innovative hen house door opener and closer which has three operating modes in one compact, weatherproof box. Driven by microprocessor it has a user-friendly menu system which makes setting up a piece of cake. Invented in Wiltshire by seasoned chicken keepers, HenSafe fills the gap in the market for a door opener/closer which, uniquely, uses a combination of Light and Time together in one box.
So how does it work? If you decide to use the Time Setting then just enter an opening and closing time and HenSafe will operate your door at those times. If you prefer to use the Light (LUX) Setting then you set the appropriate light level with one push of a button. If later on you find that it's not quite right then simply push the button again to recalibrate.
HenSafe's ground-breaking third mode is the "Both" Setting which uses a combination of Time and Light together. So for instance HenSafe will close your door at a time set by you but only if it is darker than the stored light level. Useful when evenings are getting longer towards spring and summer as it saves you having to keep adjusting the light level.
Opening works on the same principal – HenSafe will open your door at a time set by you but only if it is lighter than the stored light level. Useful when a neighbouring streetlight or floodlight comes on after your hens have gone to roost, or when mornings are getting darker towards autumn and winter - it saves you keep having to adjust the time.
You can mix and match all three modes to suit your location. So for example open on Time, close on Light; open on Light, close on Both, whatever you like. If you don't like what you've set then just change it. There's also a Manual button which is useful for situations when you want to keep your hens out of the house (perhaps when you have a broody hen or want to clean out) and an auto stop-start feature if a hen is obstructing the door – it will pause while your hen gets out of the way.
The digital display means you can see with the press of a button what your current settings are and how much battery you have left, although they should last for well over a year. When the batteries get low then HenSafe will display a message telling you to change them. There's also a system heartbeat LED light which is visible from 100m when it flashes every minute, and a backlit display if you want to check your settings when it's dark. It will lift a door of up to 5Kg with a maximum travel of lift of approx. 600mm and is designed to use with your own vertical door but is adaptable for other door types.
Everything you need is in the one unit – just install batteries, put your settings in and hang it up. HenSafe has been extensively field tested and we guarantee the electronics for two years. It's available to buy at www.HenSafe.net for an introductory price of £140.
