6000 Free Range Hens in Need of Homes

6000 Free Range HY-LINE hybrid hens are desperately in need of homes in Bucks / Northants by the end of the month as another British Farmer calls it quits after 25 years of keeping laying hens. Escalating feed costs and poor egg prices from the supermarkets who make most of the money on the eggs we buy is to blame and the flock of hens must go earlier than originally planned. These are laying hens that are just over 1 year old and will lay many eggs for years to come. These birds are reared to RSPCA higher welfare standards, approaved under the Freedom Food scheme and currently produce eggs to the Lion Code Standards. You can see an appeal from the farm in their effort to rehome some of these girls.... If you can help, read on for contact details.
The farmer said " They are very friendly and cheap to keep. These hens will lay an egg a day as long as they have food in their tummies. Hens must be picked up by the end of February. I will arrange dates and times for people to pick up. Please bring your own boxes or crates, I will be on hand to help catch them.....I rehomed 400 last year,i hope to beat that!"
These hens are being sold for a mere £3 per hen for quantities of 10 or less and £2 per hen for 11 or more.
They are located in Bucks / Northants. Please email
