Welcome to our Hencam

Our Hencam / Duckcam actually gets moved around from time to time. Sometimes it is in the brooding area with our chicks / ducklings and sometimes it's in the hen house. Currently it is in the hen house.

The camera view can be controlled by you.

Position 1 - The Nestboxes

Position 2 - The Floor

Position 3 - Outside - Low down

Position 4-  Outside High - (Home Position)

Select a different view at the bottom of the image and then click 'change view' and wait a few seconds for the new webcam position. You can follow our microblog on twitter, as we make changes to the site or move the camera from rearing box to hen house and so on.

The Chick or Duckcam in the Brooding Box.

hencam-in-the-brooding-areaFrom sometime in March through to about September we are hatching chicks and ducklings. The webcam goes into one of our rearing boxes (the posh one that is painted) so you can see them from the moment they come out of the hatcher. When the chicks get put into here they have dried out in the hatcher but cannot stand up for long and are pretty exhausted. Within 24 hours, they should be eating and drinking and moving around a bit more.

The Hencam in the Coop.

This is the webcam in the hen house. We put the camera in here when we don't have chicks or ducklings, usually September to March. You can usually see some of our girls laying their eggs during the mornings and feeding. Unfortunately our camera doesn't work at night so you can only see a black screen! One day, we hope to be able to have a night camera so you can watch our chickens having chicken dreams.

Thinking of getting your own Hencam or Webcam?

The webcam we use is called an Network Webcam and runs without being connected to a PC. If you are thinking of getting your own webcam, we would highly recommend Networkwebcams. We have had fantastic technical support from them from the moment we contacted them and they really do deserve a mention!

You can set a hencam up (or on a shed / yard for security and monitoring for example) and it can be set to record motion. You log in using a standard internet browser from anywhere around the World and can play those motion detection pictures back or watch live to see what is going on. There's sound too which is pretty neat (you don't hear sound on our camera because we're not paying the £29 per month). You only need a streaming company if you plan to send your pictures to a website where there can be many users connected.

If you are interested, you can go to Networkwebcams by clicking on the link below and you can see what sort of webcams are available...Don't be put off by the prices you see for the professional versions, there are many cheap and cheerful webcams available for under £100. Ours cost around £150.

Have Fun!
