Photo: A Black East Indian Duck.

The Black East Indian duck is thought to have originated from America. It has a beetle green iridescent sheen to it that can only be seen at certain angles as the light reflects off the plumage. This colour gene is shared with the Cayuga, also from America. The Black East Indian entered the stadards in 1865. In America this duck entered the American Standard of Perfection in 1874 and is called the East Indies.
