  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • For sale - Black Araucana
I have a pair of Black Araucana for sale - I could, if pushed, be convinced into it being a trio - male has won 6 Best of breed including best black at the national and best large fowl light at wigtown so on champ row - he is a cracker, the original female has won one best of breed - (only shown twice) the other is a 2011 late hatching - and looks like being good - not wanting silly money, just a good home for them where they will be loved and maybe shown - you can't go wrong with them they are some of the very best

We have a Marsh Daisy hen called Twiglett. She is about 3 years old and is a 'proper' original Marsh Daisy, not one of the new breed created by the Club. She has a much larger comb, bigger frame, original two-tone feathering, attitude and had white lobes in her first year, all the traits that the current M D Club breeders have completely lost -by their own admission I add. Has green feet and legs of course.Whilst she is a great and novel addition to our flock her true value is being wasted and she should go for breeding with someone wanting to maintain the original standard, which must be very rare now.

So if anyone would like her to add to their Original Standard Marsh Daisy flock, or knows of anyone please PM. She is not my hen but both myself and the owner share the same desire to see her used effectively to preserve the original standards. She will be hand-delivered to the right person within reasonable distance of Staffordshire or Lincolnshire.

Will be very interesting to see a picture of this bird !!!

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Leghorn pullets, bantams.
    Hi Foxy, Chris.
Thanks for your comments, very interesting.
The little girls are certainly beautiful elegant birds. I decided to keep the two large white that I hatched as I think now that both of them are pullets, only time will tell of course!
My feather munching Whitestar is still on her own, isolated, and still producing huge white eggs. She does produce an egg a day without fail, nothing seems to faze her.
She will have to go though. Still tries it on if she can get near Bluebell of any of the others, but mostly they scatter at her approach, word has got round - I am her only friend!
Today I watched her as she came trotting up the garden to me on call, she is friendly and sweet to me and my granddaughters - just wants the feathers off all her compatriots!!!!!!

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Leghorn pullets, bantams.
The ultimate egg laying hen in my opinion, outstripping any hybrid by far based on our browns. Loads of eggs for hardly any feed. Don't understand why more people don't have them.

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Leghorn pullets, bantams.
ohhh lovely! Great birds for someone :D

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Leghorn pullets, bantams.
I have 3 Leghorn pullets for sale, bantams, lovely girls.
They are 12 weeks old, two are exchequer and one is white. They are £12.50 each at the moment, will be more at POL.
I live in NW Surrey very near 2 Js of the M3.

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Marsh Daisy hen needs specialist home
To the best of my knowledge chuck this is the original colour. I seem to remember 'wheaten' being mentioned, but that was by the MD Club and she is two-tone. Best get a photo. Problem is she is camera shy!

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Marsh Daisy hen needs specialist home
So what colour MD is she ? The big problem with MD's is that they are very difficult to breed true even if bred from stock which are correct.

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
Hi Chris how about names after french pearfumes-Channel,Allure sound perfect for for them :D No 5 propobly to long

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
I'll bring them in when they have settled more and clean them off a bit as the long travel had them standing in poo, even though they were not fed beforehand. Then we can take some photos! Plus some of Claude the new cockerel. Need some French names for the girls I think.

I'm tempted to say 'How would you know?' but I won't because I value your friendship too much, Chris!
Yes actually I do think they're rather special, once you've got your eye in for them.
Still looking forward to your pics.....

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
Well I must add that in my humble opinion these are the most elegant and graceful birds we have. They just seem to glide around the run, no jerky movements. I'm well and truly hooked and yet when we first saw them our reaction was the normal one "What the hell are they"! I saw people look physically ill at one show when they saw them -quite why I can't imagine. Wonder what they look like when they are moulting?

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
Excellent, Chris, i'm so pleased you've fouind a 'family' of them at last. Each to his own... well, E.T, wasn't much to look at, to the uninitiated eye, and he turned out to be not only very loveable but a big box office draw. Looking forward to those pics.....

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
Looking forward to photos Chris! :D Not sure we will be errr....coo-ing over them though! But I expect your new lad will be besotted! :D :D

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
Similar 'haircut' Cuwiar. Their ears look very odd. Just little holes in the side of their head and when they have a full crop the bald skin bulges out and makes the neck seem even longer. They are quite small at 4-5 lbs each. Could get 8 in the little rearing unit I've given them for now (until I build their 'Hilton'). Only babies hatched in June/July. I'll post some photos in due course.

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: Wanted Transylvanian Naked Neck Cockerel
Update. Hens arrived today from Shelley Rogerson near Leeds -complicated journey, absolutely delightful top quality birds. We go to buy a cockerel on Friday from Lincolnshire coast -equally highest pure bred quality. So we will have a premium breeding quartet by the weekend. Am very excited!

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: chicken thieves about.BEWARE
Taken from a friend of ours near Burton upon trent, Staffordshire last week a dozen Wellsummers. Apparently chickens are stolen and sold at poultry markets immediately on a regular basis. Leek, Penkridge, Derby and Melton Mobray are regular outlets so I am told. Be careful what you buy everyone, because if an owner traces them to the Market they were sold at they will be recovered and you will be out of pocket. Even worse to be 'in receipt of stolen goods' is a criminal offence.

  • Chickens For Sale or Wanted • Re: chicken thieves about.BEWARE
so sorry to hear this, we no longer put poultry in the field as we have had so many stolen, saying that last year we had a bantie and 6 chicks stolen from the garden at the back of our pony stable, you wouldt have known they were there if you hadnt walked around there. they also took the hen from the pen next door and next night came back and let the cockeral from that pen out during the night and the b. fox got him. 2 christmasses running we have lost our ducks, we no longer keep them. Im afraid if we caught them they wouldnt walk out, they wouldnt be able to crawl. Its a hobby with us but it must be even more devastating if it is your livelehood. I must admit our local polis have been very good not much they could do but at least they put it in the local papers and we put a notice on the field gate saying CCTV was in operation, it isnt and it got taken down but as the saying goes 'every littkle helps'
